Slash resistance to the highest level
Sark complies with two European standards: BS EN 388:2003 and BS EN ISO 13997: 1997.
Sark is the only product to also comply with the Home Office Slash Resistant Standard for UK Police (HOSDB) 2006 tests.
Understanding the tests
Measurement of cut resistance
Cut resistance of a fabric against sharp objects testing is defined by the following tests:
- BS EN 388:2003; and
- BS EN ISO 13997:1997
Developed specifically for gloves the testing methodology of BS EN 388:2003 measures abrasive resistance as well as resistance to cuts, blades, tears and punctures.
The second of these tests BS EN ISO 13997:1997 was designed for protective clothing and establishes the test regime for fabric resistance to cuts by sharp objects.
HOSDB Slash Resistant Standard for the UK Police(2006) describes a new testing format which was deliberately aimed at raising the bar for slash resistant materials in protective clothing for the UK Police force.
